PROFILE
Standard Eight was founded in 1998 in the United Kingdom by Alex Sharpe, whose proven track record in high technology environments is reflected in all aspects of the company. This includes an excellent understanding of documentation and consultancy, coupled with a first rate ‘human factor’ appreciation.
From 1975 until 1998 Alex worked for a major science and engineering company at its various sites around the United Kingdom. During this time, his work, as an Electronics & Systems Engineer, as a PC Support Manager and as a Safety & Reliability Analyst, involved him heavily in Technical Writing and in the editing and proofreading processes.
In 1998, he decided to set up a company, Standard Eight, allowing him to explore opportunities in technical writing and other writing services.
Alex is a Chartered Engineer (IT & Electronics) and a Chartered IT Professional, with a BSc(Hons) degree in Control & Instrumentation. He also has the following professional qualifications:
	Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (formally the Institute of Electrical Engineers, IEE)
	Member of BCS, The Chartered Institute of IT (formally the British Computer Society, BCS)
	Member of the Institute of Scientific and Technical Communicators (ISTC)
